I was lucky enough to come across this vintage Gibson A50 mandolin a while ago, and despite the great look, feel and tone I've decided I'm more of an F-style guy (not necessarily on looks - I actually prefer how they hang on the strap for my right hand placement).
The serial number seems to date it to the late 1950s or early 1960s and cosmetically this A-50 is in great shape. Other than the minor play wear you'd expect from a mandolin that's been played, loved and cared for over the last 50+ years, it doesn't have any major cosmetic issues to speak of. The finish is still pretty shiny and does not have any appreciable checking, either.
These are well-regarded as bluegrass machines, but also lend themselves well to folk, celtic and other traditional styles. Great way to get one of the classic mandolin tones in an instrument that will only appreciate in value.
Playability is good to my novice fingers. If I was keeping it, I would have the lower 5 frets replaced at some point due to wear, but it plays well as is. I've also had the tuners cleaned to smooth them out a bit, and while two are still a bit sticky they operate just fine.
It comes with a non-original hardshell case and will be well-packed and insured.
Asking $825 shipped/insured or best reasonable offer. I'll also ship internationally - Please message me for an accurate quote.
